What "balanced" means
I use the whole toolbox, fairly. I reward heavily the behavior I want (marker/positive reinforcement), and I give clear, consistent feedback when something isn't okay — always in a way the dog understands. The mix depends on the dog.
The science, in plain English
Dogs learn through consequences (operant conditioning) and associations (classical conditioning). Good training uses both on purpose. I'll explain what I'm doing and why, every step.
About tools (addressed head-on)
I'll be transparent about any tools I'd use, when, and why — and I'll never use one to scare or hurt a dog. If a tool isn't right for your dog or you're not comfortable, we find another way.
Why owner education is the point
The goal isn't a dog who only listens to me. It's a dog who listens to you, after I'm gone.
